- remove "gnu" from CONFIGURE_STYLE since it is redundant
- mkdir -> ${INSTALL_DATA_DIR}
- ${CHMOD} -> chmod
- remove FreeBSD-ism, ${PTHREAD_LIBS} -> -pthread
