standard question is “<span class="quote">What's the state of the world?</span>”, meaning

“<span class="quote">What's new?</span>” or “<span class="quote">What's going on?</span>”. The more

terse and humorous way of asking these questions would be

“<span class="quote">State-p?</span>”. Another way of phrasing the first question under

||
