patch 9.0.1169: some key+modifier tests fail on some AppVeyor images

Problem:    Some key+modifier tests fail on some AppVeyor images.
Solution:   Adjust the tests for key movements and fix the revealed bugs.
            (Christopher Plewright, closes #11798)
