What are lab-created gemstones?

Lab-created gemstones are not some cheap crystal imitations, unlike what many people believe. With a natural gemstone, they have much in common with any other artificially created gems. They can be roughly defined as natural gemstones that are manufactured in laboratories. As natural gemstones, these gems have the same chemical composition. They have the same hardness, luster, and brilliance and they also have the same physical properties as their natural counterparts. Here are some lab-created gemstones mentioned below:

  1. Lab created sapphire- A method called Flame Fusion is used to make Lab-created sapphire. They look like natural gemstones because they are made in such a way. These sapphires will have the same chemical properties as the real stones. As compared to natural sapphire, lab grown sapphire also have the same density, hardness, and appearance.

  2. Lab created ruby- They are made using the same materials that can be found in a natural ruby. Lab-created ruby is less expensive than natural ones and unlike natural rubies, they are not flawed. In their chemical properties, they are identical.

  3. Lab-created emerald- It is not a natural emerald but a lab emerald is a real emerald. In synthetic gems, synthetic emerald is the most expensive gem. In labs, the methods used to create them require expensive equipment. The yield of face table material is low and the process is slow and energy-intensive.

  4. Lab-created opal- As compared to natural opals, synthetic opals are man-made opals that have the same chemical composition, physical properties, internal structure, and appearance. To indicate the man-made origin they often called lab-created opals.

  5. lab-created diamond- By using cutting-edge technology a lab-created diamond is “grown” inside a lab that replicates the natural diamond growing process. Lab-created diamonds are not fake also the result is a man-made diamond that is chemically, physically, and optically the same as those grown beneath the earths surface.

  6. Lab-Created Morganite- Because of the rarity, natural morganites are often over-valued. Due to this, it is better to buy lab-created morganite made by a hydrothermal method. Because they have exact same physical and chemical composition and are sold at fraction of the price of natural morganite. They are more vivid and brighter in appearance than natural morganites making them better than natural beryl.

  7. lab-created white sapphire- The Flame Fusion method is also used to make lab-created white sapphire. It comes under the category of synthetic corundum. It resembles natural white sapphire in its physical and chemical properties.
