...
The Debian menu system has been deprecated for some time. Debian Policy
4.0.1 now states (in Section 9.6) that "packages installing a Free
Desktop entry must not also install a Debian menu system entry".

The file m4/gnulib-comp.m4 is required in the with-autogenerated branch
...
Without this file, ./configure fails and the ./build-aux/bootstrap script
needs to be run again. This latter script has been rerun with the same
inputs as commit 2dc2bfb9bf

Gnulib as at commit d93b573ba772a334a83dac971c3004f1fed8a8a5 (with a date
stamp of Wed Aug 23 14:45:58 2017 -0700), Autoconf 2.69, Automake 1.15.1,
Gettext 0.19.8.1 and pkg-config 0.29.

...
The upstream package requires GNU Gettext 0.19.8 or newer, but older
releases of Debian and Ubuntu still have Gettext 0.19.3 or 0.19.7.
